Cottonwood - 1871 California Great Register 1890 - living in Madison, Yolo county- farmer 1834 - at 9 years of age, John emigrated from Virginia to Cooper County, Missouri with has family. 1849 -He came to California in 1849 across the plains from Missouri. He came to Hangtown (Placerville), California, a gold rush mining town. He followed mining there during the ensuing autumn and then went to Nevada City where he continued his mining until the next spring. 1853 He located in Yolo county and has followed his former occupation of farming, since. 1861, Mr. Tutt was elected Justice of the Peace in Cottonwood township and served for three years. During his term, he was elected by the Justices of the county as Associate Judge in the Court of Sessions, and he was one of the Judges of that Court when the law was repealed, which occurred January 1st, 1864. His farm, situated about two miles southeast of Madison, Yolo County, contains 266 acres of tillable land. Wheat is the main product.
