  He received a classical education at the University of Vermont, and his theological, at Andover, Massachusetts, and the Union Theological Seminary of Virginia. He was an active Presbyterian Minister more than fifty years. He had five sons and two daughters- all living near him in 1884 at Marinette, Wisconsin.
