  He was called Harrison. He had come ahead of the family to California to prepare a home for his wife and small children. They came across the plains with Harrison's parents in 1853, but in Bear Valley the group came down with "Camp Fever". When Harrison, who had been expecting their arrival, heard of the sickness, he started off with a wagon from Napa. He helped with the nursing of the party, and though the children recovered, he and his wife died. They were buried beside the Bear River in a grave marked by rocks. Their remains were later moved to Samuel Harrison Grigsby's plot in Yountville.
