  !Death: He died at age 85 in Napa County, 12 June 1907. State file #14828. When he was 11 years old, Achilles (Kellis) moved with his family to Laclede County, Missouri. He was a justice of the pease for Osage Tounship there. In 1850 he started across the plains for Napa County, California with his first wife, Elizabeth, and their 5 year old daughter. Elizabeth died on the trip. Achilles settled near Yountville. He had driven a number of cattle and horses, racing stock included, with him from Missouri. His second marriage ended within 3 months with the death of Amelia. In all he made 3 trips across the country, each time returning with thoroughbred Kentucky horses. In 1858 he made the trip east by way of Panama. He served as supervisor for Napa County and was known as the "father of the stone bridge" in that county. He was a prominent turfman. Besides the children listed there is an infant son and a 7 month infant Amelia buried at Yountville. (The following is a transcript of a letter written by Achilles Grigsby in his own hand.)
