• Notes

  "Mel" moved with his parents to Laclede County, MO, when he was two years old. In 1850 he crossed the plains to Napa County, California, with his brother Achilles Grigsby. They were in Clear Lake Township in 1860, and he was farming in Lower Lake, Lake County, CA, in 1879. Information from Samuel Harrison Grigsby's Bible, 1850 & 1860 Napa County census, 1879/88 voters list of Lake County, CA. His home, including family furniture, is now "Anderson Marsh State Historical Park" in Lower Lake, Lake County, California. It is said that he blew up the dam and lost his home.
