Rodney Nelson and Amy Ann Will
Rodney Nelson was born March 17, 1819 in Bay of Quinte, Prince Edward County, Ontario.
Amy Ann (also known as Mary Ann, Amanda, or Emma) Will was born June 8, 1828 in Oakville, Ontario.
The first Ontario census was not until 1852 <http://automatedgenealogy.com/census52/View.jsp?id=14624&highlight=29>, when Rodney was 31 and Emma was 25. By then they have moved to Houghton, Norfolk County. They have three young sons (David, 4, Daniel, 2, and a baby boy) and list their religion as Methodist. In 1871 they are still in Houghton, with their oldest son gone but eight more children (seven boys and a girl) still living at home. In 1881 their daughter and three youngest sons are still at home in Houghton. In the 1891 Farmer’s Directory for Houghton <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~forontario/houghton1.htm>, Rodney is listed as a freeholder in Houghton, concession 3 lot 1, and Edward and Lawson as tenants. The 1877 atlas for Houghton shows the location of Rodney’s farm <http://digital.library.mcgill.ca/countyatlas/showmap.php?Township=Houghton&plotX=3203&plotY=978&getMap.x=43&getMap.y=18>.
Amy Ann died on July 13, 1889 in Houghton. Rodney followed almost exactly a year later, on July 15, 1890. Both are buried in the Hemlock Cemetery in Houghton township.

Rodney was a ships carpenter at Port Nelson, Burlington. David William was about 1 year old when Rodney and Amy moved to a homestead of 100 acres which was the west half of Lot 1, Concession 3, Houghton Township. The Norfolk County Register shows he received the patent from the crown for this on December 20, 1869. Walter Nelson of Brownsville, Ontario, a grandson of Rodney Nelson had some of his carpenter tools, a pine cupboard that was beside the fireplace in the log cabin, a picture of the frame house he built later and the family bible with full records of births and deaths of the twelve children. Also a copy of his last will dated April 14, 1890. Ninety acres of this homestead was cleared during his occupancy of this farm.
This was in the Nelson Family of New York manuscript that Cortez Nelson had privately printed in 1974.
