John B. Grigsby was born in Yountville, Napa County, September 27, 1869, and was reared and educated in Napa County. After completing the grammar school course he took up farming and has followed it ever since. He has one thousand acres of good land in Wooden valley, ten miles from Napa, for which he paid $8,000. A tract of two hundred acres is tillable for hay and grain and the remainder of the land is used for pasturage of fifty head of cattle and sixteen head of horses.
Mr. Grigsby was married in Napa December 18, 1901, to Miss Helen McCombs, who was born in Napa, the daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth (Finn) McCombs, the former born in Wayne County, Ohio, and the latter in Boston, Mass. Isaac McCombs came to California across the plains in 1848 and was a farmer in Napa until he died. Mrs. McCombs came to CaliĀfornia in 1872 and died in 1874 and Mrs. Grigsby is the only child of this union. Mr. and Mrs. Grigsby have two children. Helen M. and Wanda H. Politically Mr. Grigsby is a Democrat, but believes in voting for the best man. He is a man that delights in hunting and this is his chief pleasure. The coming years should greatly improve the value of his land, for he is working with assiduity and has many friends.
