1710 | John was a student in Immanuel College, Cambridge, England, but failed to graduate, owing to his puritanic views. He came to America in 1633: remained a short time in Watertown, Mass., whence he removed in 1636 to Wethersfield, Connecticuyt, where he was a magistrate. In 1640 he settled in Milford, Connecticut, where he was admitted to the church Nov 20, 1640; was again chosen magistrate of the colony May 27, 1641. He was dismissed from Milford church Nov. 8 1647, and about the same time became pastor of the church in Watertown, Massachusetts, where he continued until his death. He is said to have been one of the most learned men of his day, and an able and eloquent preacher. He married 1st Abigail, by whom he had six children; He married 2nd, Mary Launce, a great-granddaughter of Thomace Darcy, Earl of Rivers by whom he had twenty children.
